There are two major types of diabetes. In type 1 (formerly called juvenile-onset or insulin-dependent) diabetes, the body completely stops producing any insulin, a hormone that enables the body to use glucose found in foods for energy. People with type 1 diabetes must take daily insulin injections to survive. This form of diabetes usually develops in children or young adults, but can occur at any age. Type 2 (formerly called adult-onset or non-insulin-dependent) diabetes results when the body doesn’t produce enough insulin and/or is unable to use insulin properly (insulin resistance). This form of diabetes usually occurs in people who are over 40, overweight, and have a family history of diabetes, although today it is increasingly occurring in younger people, particularly adolescents.

Diabetes constitutes a major public health problem. Although substantial progress has been made in defining the genetics of metabolic syndrome risk for specific subtypes of diabetes the majority of genetic risk of diabetes remain unresolved. This review focuses on the current knowledge of the genetic basis of diabetes and its complications, specifically diabetic nephropathy (DN), recent advances in genetics of diabetes, diabetes in ethnic groups, genetic lifestyle interactions and understanding the genetics of Diabetes. Gestational diabetes is diabetes that occurs during pregnancy in women. Gestational diabetes occurs in about 4% of all pregnancies. Diabetic dyslipidaemia is one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease in diabetes mellitus. The characteristic features of diabetic dyslipidaemia are a high plasma triglyceride concentration, low HDL cholesterol concentration and increased concentration of small dense LDL-cholesterol particles. In order to investigate the bioinformatics tools and methodologies used to in diabetes research, at first, this was difficult to do because it did not have a preconceived idea about how the research would be organized and how bioinformatics tools would be described or identified in the research. To get started, we ran several cursory searches using basic search terms such as bioinformatics and diabetes (research) through several databases to see what types of articles were returned.

There are a significant number of diabetes-related complications, many of which are preventable. They include heart attack, stroke, amputation, blindness, kidney failure, depression and nerve disease. Prediabetes was examined as part of the Australian Diabetes, Obesity and Lifestyle Study (AusDiab), which found that 16 per cent of adults over the age of 25 years — approximately 2.5 million people — have prediabetes . Between 15 and 30 per cent of people with prediabetes are likely to develop type 2 diabetes within five years. It is difficult to estimate the total economic and social impact of diabetes. Health care that is directly attributable to diabetes costs approximately $1.7 billion per year. In terms of indirect costs, the full cost of diabetes may be as high as $14 billion per year. These indirect costs include reduced productivity, absence from work, early retirement and premature death and bereavement. Costs are heavily concentrated in particular sub-groups of people with diabetes. Annual direct costs for people with diabetes complications are more than twice as much as for people without complications: $9600 compared with $3500

20^th Asia Pacific Diabetes Conference (Diabetes Asia Pacific 2018) convoked by Conference Series LLC during July 16-17, 2018 which was successfully held at Mercure Sydney, Australia with a theme “Therapeutic Approaches for Diabetes Management and Endocrine Complications” was a great success where eminent keynote speakers from various reputed institutions with their resplendent presence addressed the gathering.
